Make Music
Liberty - 2024

About

Make Music Day (and Make Music Liberty) is a free celebration of music around the world on June 21

Launched in 1982 in France as the Fête de la Musique, it is now held on the same day in more than 1,000 cities in 120 countries. Seventeen years ago, the Fête de la Musique crossed the Atlantic with the debut of Make Music New York.

Starting as a grassroots initiative by a team of volunteers, the event quickly became a critical and popular success. Today, over 6,000 New York musicians – amateurs and professionals, of all ages and musical persuasions – perform in more than 1,200 free, outdoor concerts each June 21, earning praise for their “inspiring” (New York Times) and “thrilling” (New Yorker) performances.

In recent years, other cities across the continent have launched their own Make Music celebrations. On June 21, 2023, 117 North American cities organized 4,791 free concerts… all on a single day. This year will be the 17th anniversary in the United States! Viva la France and Fête de la Musique!

Make Music Liberty (2024 – Our 9th Year):

On Friday, June 21, Liberty will join hundreds of cities in the US and throughout the world as we mark the beginning of summer with Make Music Liberty (hosted by the Liberty Arts Commission), a citywide, celebration of music open to all ages, all genres of music and all skill levels.  And, it’s all free.  Throughout the day, you may hear music being performed on sidewalks, residential porches, the steps of a church, a parking lot, in one of Liberty’s city parks or at a public place of business that has volunteered to be a host venue. Currently, Liberty is the only Northland location (aside from Kansas City) that hosts Make Music Day!

This is our 9th year for Make Music Liberty and it takes community involvement to make it all happen – participation by musicians, businesses and public spaces to host performers, volunteers to keep things on track, and funding to advertise and promote the event. So please contact us and signup!

Help us make this another great day in Liberty!

Make Music Liberty is sponsored by the City of Liberty. The Liberty Arts Commission is the arts advocacy agency for the City of Liberty and is supported, in part, by the Liberty Arts Foundation based, 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization supporting local arts).
